
For centuries, the Bayeux Tapestry has preserved the glory of the Norman Conquest and the drama between Harold Godwinson of Wessex and William of Normandy. National Geographic went to France in the 1960s to photograph the 225-foot-long masterpiece, publishing the famous tapestry in its entirety for the first time in color.
